4.3.3 Testing
4.3.3.1 Salt spray (see dwgs. 8889307 or 8889308 as applicable),
Major Defect, Code No. 04001.-Sampling and rejection criteria of body
or body assembly (as applicable) shall be in accordance with QQ-P-416 or
TT-C-490 (as applicable). This test shall be conducted for 96 hours
along 1.25 inches of its outside length measured from the open end. The
surface area rear of this point may be tested for 24 hours minimum. Salt
spray test not required for inside surface of body assembly. The test
shall be conducted as specified in 4.4.1.
4.3.3.2 Push test of rotating band on body assembly (see dwg. 8889307),
Major defect, Code No. 05001.-Six (6) body assemblies shall be selected
from each lot and subjected to this test. If any assembly fails to comply
with the requirement specified on the applicable drawing, the lot shall
be rejected. NOTE: Movement as specified on dwg. 8889307 is defined as
movement of the back face of the rotating band relative to the body.
This test shall be conducted as specified in 4.4.3 using equipment in
accordance with 4.3.4.
4.3.4 Inspection equipment.-Equipment Tabulation (ET) number 8889307
and Equipment Lists (EL's) referenced thereon identify the inspection
equipment required to perform the examinations and tests prescribed in
this section. The contractor shall design inspection equipment in
accordance with the instructions in 6.3. Supply and maintenance of the
equipment listed on the EL's shall be in accordance with MIL-I-45607.
4.3.4.1 Government rights to documentation.-Inspection equipment
drawings and lists provided and revised in accordance with the requirements
of this specification may be used by DOD activities for design, procurement,
manufacture, testing, evaluation, production, and receiving inspection,
overhaul, shipping, storage, identification of stock, ordering and storage
of replacement parts, inspection of items at overhaul, general maintenance
of equipment, construction, survey, and whenever inspection equipment drawings
are needed.
4.4 Test methods and procedures
4.4.1 Salt spray.-This test shall be conducted in accordance with
FED-STD-151 or FED-STD-141 (as applicable). Specimens so tested shall
not be returned to the lot. The rotating band may be masked off for this
test (as applicable). Salt solution shall be 5 percent.
4.4.2 Ultrasonic inspection.-Bodies shall be inspected for the
presence of cracks, voids, pipes or inclusions, etc., along the cylindrical
section of the body throughout the entire wall thickness including base
section, gaged eternally. This test shall be performed and calibrated as
shown on the Equipment List. If calibration shows equipment not to be
performing correctly, the quantity represented prior to calibration shall
be reprocessed.
